MEMBERS cutting across party lines paid rich tributes to former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna in the Assembly and Council in M the ongoing winter session of the legislature in Belagavi on Tuesday. The members recalled Krishna's contributions to Karnataka's rapid progress.

Soon after both the Houses convened, the members called Krishna a true statesman politician and said that his longterm vision for the development of Bengaluru put the city on the global map and made it the Silicon Valley of India.

They also said that a majority of irrigation projects of North Karnataka saw the light of day during Krishna's tenure.

Assembly Speaker UT Khader moved an obituary reference as soon as the House convened. Supporting the move, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recalled that he was influenced by Krishna before entering politics. Even before joining the Congress in 2005, he had consulted with Krishna, who appreciated his stand and his necessity for the party, Siddaramaiah said.
