Appeals against HC order staying nine 2020 enactments related to V-C nomination in state univs

- SUCHITRA KALYAN MOHANTY @ New Delhi

TN moves SC over V-C appointments

THE Tamil Nadu government has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court's vacation bench challenging the Madras High Court's May 21 order staying the operation of nine 2020 enactments related to appointment of Vice Chancellors in state universities.

The matter assumes significance — as the parties which were involved in disputes did not come to vacation bench for getting reliefs — but after the TN government knocked the doors of the top court, there was a possibility that the matter be heard in a day or two.

The top court's summer vacation is till July 1 and at present the court conducts restricted hearing and three-four courts sit to hear important matters. The regular court opens on July 14, Monday.
