SC NEEDS TO SPUR LONG-TERM ACTIONS TO END POLLUTION
The Morning Standard
|December 09, 2024
FROM Prime Minister Narendra Modi's team, the Ministers are not known to speak beyond the scripted speech let alone plain speak.
However, the Highways and Transport Minister from his Cabinet, Nitin Gadkari is from a different genre and known to speak his mind out. No wonder last week at a function he made no bones about calling Delhi a polluted city. This plain speak should have embarrassed his cabinet colleague, Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, who should have anchored the fight against pollution.
Given his absence and complete lack of initiative to drive and coordinate between the concerned Aam Aadmi Party governments in Punjab and Delhi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana, it was left to the Supreme Court to clear the smog from the National Capital Region (NCR).
