Reserve posts in police for Agniveers, states told

WITH 2026 going to be the first exit year for Agniveers after completing their four-year tenure in the armed forces, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has written to the states to prepare for reserving seats for such military-trained youth in their police forces as part of future recruitments.

According to officials, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has written letters to the chief ministers and the Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan to the chief secretaries in this regard. The officials said that the states have been sensitised on the need to provide employment opportunities for approximately 75 per cent Agniveers, who will transition out of the armed forces after completing four years of scheduled tenure.
