Nearly 8,500 vehicle owners fined in last 10 days for violating pollution norms

UNDER the government's winter action plan of GRAP II & III, the Delhi transport department in the last 10 days has penalised nearly 8,500 vehicles for violations ranging from plying without valid pollution under control (PUC) certificate to unauthorised parking.

Officials said 8,481 challans have been served to violators. Most of the offenses were related to parking vehicles under no-parking zones. Besides, 3,100 vehicle owners were prosecuted for driving without valid a PUC certificate.

The department also impounded 500 out-ofage vehicles that were found plying on the road, the officials said.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in the last three days has issued 77 challans for burning materials in the open, imposing a fine of Rs 65,000. It has also issued 91 challans for breaking construction and dust waste norms with a fine of 12 lakh in total.
