Mkt falls for 4th session on Trump tariff shocker

Sensex drops 780 pts to 84,180.96, Nifty plunges 264 pts to 25,877
US President Donald Trump’s approval of legislation granting authority to impose sanctions up to 500% on countries buying Russian oil triggered sharp declines in Indian equity benchmarks on Thursday.
The BSE Sensex dropped 780.18 points, or 0.92%, to close at 84,180.96, while the NSE Nifty plunged 263.90 points, or 1.01%, to end at 25,876.85.
This is the fourth straight session when the Nifty50 index is closing in the red, with the participants sidelining robust GDP numbers expected for the financial year 2026. The pessimism on Thursday was such that 45 of the 50 Nifty stocks fell and the BSE-listed companies lost over %8 lakh crore in market cap during the session. In the broader market, Nifty Midcap100 and Smallcap100 fell by 2%.
