Jog Falls ropeway project gets forest dept nod

The State government's ambitious ropeway project at Jog Falls could soon see the light of day.
The forest department gave in-principle approval for the project, but added that it will need the Central government's approval too.
The project was approved by the forest clearance wing of the department last month. The tourism department and Jog Management Authority (JMA) are demolishing the existing inspection bungalow (IB) near the head of the waterfalls, and constructing a five-star hotel. A 1-km long ropeway will also be created, for which the forest department will hand over 2.39 hectares of land, of which 1.89 hectares is in Sagar division.
"If all goes well, this will be the first ropeway project in Karnataka and will be open for the public by July 2025," said a JMA official.
