India-China trade via Himachal from next June after MEA nod

WITH the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) granting political clearance to the Himachal government, the Indo-China border barter-based trade via the Land Customs Station (LCS) Namgia-Shipkila through the Shipki La strategic pass is set to resume from June next year after a six-year gap.
A trade mart is also likely to come up near the pass to facilitate traders and tourists. The import and export from this border point will be restricted to items notified by the Centre. Currently, only 20 items can be imported, including wool, pashmina, sheep skin, yak tails, yak hair, salt, shoes, blankets, quilts, carpets and herbal medicines.
