Hooch tragedy: 219 affected, many return after treatment

FIVE days after the illicit arrack incident that took as many as 56 lives in Kallakurichi, six people have returned home from hospital.
Showing a drastic decrease in the death rate, one person died in the hooch tragedy in Kallakurichi on Sunday, making the total count to 56. Similarly there is a slow decline of incoming patients as the overall affected people were 219 on Sunday, a slight increase from 215 the previous night.
In regard to the deaths at Salem government hospital, Dean R Mani said, "With one more reported dead this morning, the death count has risen to 19. Additionally, 29 others are currently undergoing treatment, with 2 in critical condition."
