Heavy rain, flashflood cripple life in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD was hit by a deluge on Thursday evening as intense rains swept across the city, triggering a flash flood alert and paralysing traffic in several key areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts for all districts for the next five days, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall. The city's western corridor - home to Hyderabad's bustling IT sector - bore the brunt of the downpour with Gachibowli recording the highest rainfall in the city at 126.5 mm by 8 pm.
The highest rainfall recorded in the state was in Nalgonda (127.3 mm). Cloudburst-like rain (100 mm/hour) was observed in this zone, triggering fears of flash floods and urban inundation. The Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) weather stations reported that this high-intensity event may continue for a few more hours.
