Formation of Task Force is fine but India has been here before; implementation key

HE sports ministry has released the “A Unified Framework for development of Coaching Ecosystem in India”,a bunch of guidelines and recommendations for overall growth of sports.

The committee, led by P Gopichand, considered a Super Coach for producing Olympic and Worlds medallists, suggested a lot of reforms that are athletes-centric and more inclusive.
The entire philosophy of coaching has been based more on practice or practical than theory. However, some of the points that are mentioned in the document are not new. Some areas have been regularly flagged by Indian coaches as well. In 2017, another Olympic Task Force (OTF) with Gopichand in it, had recommended forming a coaches’ body much in the line of National Coach Accreditation Board (NCAB). Abhinav Bindra, Beijiing Olympic gold medallist, was also part of the OTF for the next three Olympics in 2017. Bindra led a taskforce committee that submitted “Capacity Building of Sports Administrators” on December 30, 2025.
