Fazal Attraction: Ali's Many Acts

The Mirzapur breakout actor on his latest film Metro In Dino, the importance of good writing in cinema and more

There's a certain authenticity Ali Fazal brings to his characters. His comfort level with playing two extreme characters onscreen speaks volumes about his craft. The 38-year-old actor says it is a very pleasant thing to have opportunities to play such versatile roles. "The director and the story matter. I am glad that Basu da (Anurag Basu) gave me a chance to work in Metro In Dino," says Fazal.

His versatility stems from his growing-up years and the cinema of that time. He grew up in the Salim-Javed era when commercial and parallel cinema co-existed. "My wife and I sometimes sit and re-watch the classics of Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar and Shyam Benegal. The golden era will return soon, as there is a need for good cinema and we have good writers onboard," he adds.
