Empty chair an insult to office of CM, says Cong

OPPOSITION parties on Monday lashed out at Delhi's new chief minister, Atishi, after she decided not to sit on the chair used by her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal.

Both parties called the gesture a "grave insult" to the office of the chief minister and the constitutional norms.

Atishi, who assumed office as the eighth chief minister of Delhi, compared her temporary tenure to Bharat's rule of Ayodhya in the Ramayana, where he governed in Lord Ram's absence by placing his "khadaun" on the throne. She opted to sit on a separate chair beside Kejriwal's, leaving his chair vacant.
