CJI Chandrachud names Justice Sanjiv Khanna as successor

CHIEF Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Thursday recommended to the Centre that Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the senior-most Supreme Court Judge after the outgoing CJI, be named as his successor.
According to sources, Minister of State for Law and Justice (independent charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal had written to CJI Chandrachud asking him to name his successor.
CJI Chandrachud will demit office on November 10. If named, Justice Khanna will be the 51st CJI and have a tenure of six months. He will retire on May 13, 2025 after attaining the age of 65.
Some of the notable judgments of Justice Khanna in the Supreme Court include upholding the use of Electronic Voting Machines in elections, saying the devices were secure and eliminated booth capturing and bogus voting.
