Cauvery water dispute: SC refuses to grant interim order, seeks report from CWMA

AMIDST the controversy over sharing of Cauvery water between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the TN government suffered a setback on Friday as the top court refused to grant interim relief on the state’s plea on the release of 24,000 cusecs of water. The court also sought a report from the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) on the discharge of water by Karnataka.

“Authorities consist of experts. We don’t have that expertise. How can we pass an order? We’ll call for a report from the authority whether the order is being complied with or not. All of you in one chorus are saying that it is not being complied with, while Mr Divan is saying that it is being complied with,” said Justice BR Gavai, the presiding judge of the bench.
