What a match this was!

SATURDAY night's Currie Cup rugby — Sharks against Boland — was the best we've seen this season. To and fro, and then the winning points scored in injury time — you can't get better than that.

The way our fellows drove in the loose and flung the ball about in the three-quarter line was nothing short of sensational.

The dames of the Pub With No Name in Morningside were overjoyed, of course, as they strummed at their knickers before supplying elastic for catapults for the time-honoured feu de joie in which the streetlights are shot out.

Such a pity though, that the lads have left it so late to come to light. No chance at all of catching up now.

The match was played on Woodburn 1, in Maritzburg. For those of us who grew up in the capital, the atmosphere was nostalgic.

Back in those days, Collegians’ second side and Wasps’ seconds used to play an end-of-season night game at Woodburn. I was playing for Collegians.
