No breaking the Golden Rule

The Mercury

AFTER a relatively quiet period Peter Muscutt's stable has starting to turn again and he saddles Golden Rule in a tough handicap, seventh race on the nine-race card that heads proceedings on the turf at Hollywoodbets Greyville this evening.

Golden Rule has come well since returning from a break and has won two of his last three starts over this trip including one over course and distance. He has a handy galloping weight and the best of the draw, so he ticks most of the boxes.

But it will not be easy.

Drawn alongside in gate two is Mike Miller's gelding Winter Games who may just have needed his last run after returning from a break.

He does boast the scalp of Gr1 winning Gladatorian to his credit although he was in receipt of the grandstand that day - 10.5kg to be exact but he is obviously more than just useful.

Muscutt also saddles Plazza Accord who has consistent form over the trip and was closeup at his last outing. Jabu Jacobs knows his mount well and stays with the ride.

Nathan Kotzen sends out Amor Fati who started at 150-1 at his last outing and failed narrowly over course and distance in what would have been a major boil-over. He has a light weight, loves this trip so could go one better at decent odds.

Staying races are few and far between so it is encouraging to see a dozen runners line up for the C Stakes over 2400m, fifth race on the card.
