Fortune favours the brave
The Mercury
|August 29, 2025
ANDREW FORTUNE is back from his extended trip to Australia and has two rides at Hollywoodbets Greyville tonight.
Both of his mounts have strong winning chances including Future Variety in the A Stakes over 1400 m that heads the nine-race card.
Cape Town-based trainer Candice Bass-Robinson last week announced that she was starting a satellite yard at Summerveld with vastly experienced Terry Fripp at the helm. Fripp did a sterling job with the stable's Champions Season runners that included Future Variety, a winner of his last two starts including the Gr3 Umkhomazi Stakes. Future Variety steps up in trip here but does have the best of the draw and should see it out.
Biggest danger could come from The Shepherd. Peter Muscutt's charge is more than useful but did have issues at the start early in his career. Hopefully all has been sorted and he just needed his last run after a lengthy break. He should come on from that and will be a strong contender.
African Skyline has been taking on useful opposition of late and not been far behind. He has a 4kg claimer aboard which will make him dangerous. The sixth is a competitive handicap but Rosh Kedesh is in fine form and won well enough last time out to suggest that he can follow up. However, there are a few closer to him in the weights this time around so he will be hard-pressed to win again.
