Why does warm weather bring an existential crisis?
The Journal
|May 02, 2025
UNHAT. Sunglasses. Sun-screen. Water bottle.
List after list I've been sent home this week.
Did my daughters sign themselves up for the Foreign Legion and forget to mention it to me?
Are they off on some sort of desert-based expedition?
Or could this be a slight over-reaction by our fair nation in the face of nice weather?
Why can none of us seem to take sunny days in our stride?
Without screaming about the dangers of sunstroke or wildfires?
Surely we are a still good 10 degrees away from disaster.
Listen, I’ve the pallor of a person in desperate need of a blood transfusion.
Hot weather is never my friend.
But I'd rather not pass on my dislike of sunshine to my children.
Do I really want them thinking that summery days are something to be afraid of?
My five year old was positively overwhelmed with the list of do’s-and-do-not-do’s that I had to issue her with this morning.
