RAMSDALE ON THE STRONG GOALKEEPER'S UNION AT THE MAGPIES

- By SEAN MCCORMICK

NEWCASTLE United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has opened up on his reaction to the decision to reinstate Nick Pope as the club's No 1.

Ramsdale started eight games in a row in all competitions while Pope recovered from a groin injury and initially kept hold of the starting spot when the 33-year-old returned to the squad in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last month.

But Pope replaced Ramsdale in goal for Newcastle's 3-1 win over Burnley four days later and has started the last three Premier League matches.

Ramsdale returned to the starting XI in Saturday's dramatic penalty shootout win over Bournemouth, after the sides played out a 3-3 draw in the FA Cup third round, and saved three penalties to help Newcastle reach round four of the competition.

And the 27-year-old has detailed his reaction to the decision to reinstate Pope as the club's number one and how he has tried to maintain a positive mentality so he does not disrupt the 'best ever' goalkeeping group he has been a part of.
