‘We are all so very proud... in fact, proud doesn't even cut it’

TO the clubs where Lioness Lucy Bronze started out as a young player it is no surprise that she is now playing at international level and making history.

The 33-year-old right-back, from Northumberland, helped her team to victory once again on Sunday as the Lionesses retained the title of Women's Euros champions, despite her playing every match with a fractured tibia.
"A proper North East girl, that's what she is. Strong", said Louise Jones, Chair of Alnwick Town Juniors FC where Bronze started out after moving from Holy Island to Alnwick aged seven.
She added: "We're all proud of her and I think she'll keep on going. It just shows she'll even battle through her injuries."
People gathered at Alnwick Town FC on Sunday to witness Bronze and the England Women's team beat Spain 3-1 on penalties and lift the trophy once again.
The match was screened in the club's Lucy Bronze Pavilion, which was officially opened by Bronze earlier this year.
"It was a bit wild, I even ended up dancing at the end with the kids", said Louise. "I had a really sore throat last night and my throat is still really hurting today because I was screaming. But screaming with joy, not out of anger.
"They did brilliantly and our goal keeper was excellent."
