VW driver injured in suspected hit-and-run

A WOMAN in her 30s is in a critical condition in hospital following a suspected hit-and-run on the A19 near Holystone.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident around 10.40pm on Friday.

Northumbria Police, North East Ambulance Service, and the Great North Air Ambulance Service, which responded by road, all attended the scene of the collision.

Police say the collision involved a Volkswagen T-roc, which was being driven by the woman, and a Skoda Fabia.

Officers believe that the Volkswagen T-roc overtook a stationary vehicle on the side of the road, and while overtaking, it collided with the Skoda Fabia.
