Victim of suspected city assault dies in hospital

A MAN has died in hospital weeks after a suspected assault in Newcastle's China Town.

The family of Simon Beston, 55, has paid a moving tribute following his death on August 16.
He had suffered serious head injuries following a suspected assault in St Andrew’s Street on the evening of July 26 which had seen the Ladies' Day event at Newcastle Racecourse.
He has been in hospital since then. Police believe the group involved in an altercation with SImon had been at the event.
Five people have previously been arrested in connection with what happened and all have been released on police bail.
