United will have to pay £60m for Seagulls star Pedro

NEWCASTLE United have been quoted a £60m asking price for Joao Pedro with the summer transfer window about to heat up.

- By LEE RYDER

The dilemma for the Magpies is whether to blow a large proportion of their budget on a player seeking assurances of a starting place - something Eddie Howe can't guarantee. Pedro is very much an out and out centre-forward and played there for the majority of last term with the Seagulls.

However, he has been known to operate as a second striker or in a left wing slot. As the first transfer window closed the word from Brighton was that they will be prepared to sell the ex-Watford man, with sales a big part of Albion's club policy, but only at the right price.

Pedro was keen on the move to Tyneside in 2022 when Newcastle talked money with the Hornets without agreeing a move for the South American. The 23-year-old may not need much persuading to head north and would have his Brazilian countrymen Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes for company.
