AN NHS fertility doctor who headbutted a waiter in a drunken rage when he arrived at a Newcastle city centre venue hours late has avoided being struck off.

Nganjo Endeley ~ who was convicted of assault but also avoided a jail sentence at Newcastle Crown Court last year ~ has instead been suspended for a year by a medical tribunal.

In November 2024, the trial hearing heard how three years earlier, Ende-ley grabbed his 21-year-old victim’s shirt so tightly at Wafi Lounge in Clayton Street West that he struggled to breathe, before fracturing his eye socket with a powerful headbutt, as reported by The Mirror. The court heard how the victim had suffered a “huge amount of pain” and has been left with a visible dent to his forehead.

Endeley, 42, was convicted and Judge Sarah Mallett sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment suspended for two years, with 250 hours unpaid work and an order to pay £2,000 compensation. He has now completed the unpaid work requirement.

At the time of his offence, he had been working at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead and living in Bowburn, County Durham.
