A FEW weeks back, in a desperate attempt to rid myself of the remaining half stone needed to be eligible for my upcoming surgery, I took some pills.

Total honesty the best policy for my own mental health

My GP had recommended I give them a go. They are for people who, for whatever reason, struggle to shed weight.

I mean, I probably was going to hit my goal.

I was swimming for two hours a day, walking one, but I was so worried about failing to reach my target, I decided to take my doctor up on her offer. Big mistake. Huge.

Not only did these tablets stop my thyroid medication from working, so I almost instantly piled back on all the weight I had grafted to lose, they gave me such horrendous anxiety that I became a shadow of my former self.

At first I didn’t know what was happening.

I would be doing something as harmless and routine as walking my kid to school, yet my body was reacting like I was being chased through the Appalachian Mountains by a grizzly bear.

I could no longer hold conversations, with anyone, about anything.
