HENRY Tudor's bodyguards are said to be among the poltergeists, phantoms, and ghouls lurking in Britain's most haunted place.

- By RICHARD AULT

Author Dr Paul Lee has documented more than 5,500 reported hauntings around the country over a decade of painstaking research.

Paranormal encounters range from unexplained footsteps heard in the dead of night to poltergeist activity, including objects such as glasses and plates that appear to have been thrown.

Dr Lee’s research has revealed that the most haunted council area in the UK is Shropshire.

Paranormal experiences have been documented at 133 separate locations in Shropshire.

That includes Barrack's Passage in Shrewsbury, reputedly haunted by Henry Tudor’s bodyguards.

In August 1485, the future King Henry VII lodged his troops in Barrack’s Passage prior to the Battle of Bosworth Field, where his forces defeated King Richard III.
