Swedish bakery set to open in historic market

A SCANDINAVIAN-STYLE bakery and cafe is set to open in Newcastle's historic Grainger Market, bringing Swedish traditions to the city for the first time.

Baker and musician Nathalie Stern, who was born and raised in Västerås, Sweden, and her partner Ben Dickenson, a Newcastle native and creative entrepreneur, have been selling Swedish treats, rooted in Nordic flavours, at popup markets for some time.

Their bakery side hustle has proven so successful that they are now poised to launch a permanent base - Midsommar Bakery - where the couple aim to introduce fika to the North East, the Swedish ritual of enjoying coffee, cake, “and a proper break from the chaos of the day”.
