Spurned woman used bleach to kill ex’s fish

Helen Driver took exception to the victim ending their 11-month relationship over the phone and turned up at his address moments later.

‘A court heard that the 54-year-old was then captured on CCTV pouring two bottles of bleach into the pond of her ex-boyfriend’s beloved Koi Carp, who he'd had for seven years.

When he returned a while later, he discovered the empty bottles and Driver lurking behind a fence nearby.

She immediately admitted pouring the cleaning product into the pond and, despite attempts to rescue them and put them in fresh water, all six later died.

Now, Driver, of Northumbrian Way, in North Shields, has been a 12-month community order after she pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and criminal damage.
