Rowers take gold: 'We didn't just win, we won it for him'

THREE young Northumberland rowers have took home gold medals from a national competition just weeks after the death of their beloved head coach.
Sonny Hughes, Olivia Lewis and Harry Shaw all aged 15 and members of Cambois Junior Rowing Club excelled at the British Rowing Junior Inter Regional Regatta (JIRR) held at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham on April 29.
Tragedy struck the club in March when head coach Eric Shiel died suddenly while out on a training session with junior rowers.
Devoted to nurturing young rowers, Mr Shiel was known for helping them grow not just as athletes but also as people, teaching them to be part of a team, to take responsibility, to work hard, and to laugh through it all.
