Restaurant presented with 'Curry Oscar' award

THE team behind an award-winning Indian restaurant who had been keeping “fingers crossed” for success after being shortlisted for a national award now have every reason to celebrate in style after scooping the national title.
Chakh Dhoom, which opened in Newcastle in late 2023, had already won a street food restaurant of the year trophy at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards last year. Now the Jesmond restaurant, whose name is derived from Hindi words meaning 'to taste' and 'smoke, has taken a national street food restaurant of the year title at more prestigious awards.
This time the favourite in Osborne Road emerged a winner at the weekend’s 2025 Asian Curry Awards, dubbed the 'Curry Oscars!
