Tyneside residents are raising cash to fund independent assessments of council proposals for almost 20,000 new homes across North Tyneside.Red House Farm local Hannah Griffiths and her friend Helena Hammock have set up a GoFundMe to fund independent reports to potentially challenge the council's local plan proposals.

The draft plan, subject to a public consultation that ends on Wednesday, has earmarked large areas of North Tyneside to accommodate around 18,000 homes by 2042.

The GoFundMe has amassed more than £1,840, enough to already commission a transport review into the impact of the proposed developments.

Further funds will be used to finance professional reviews of the council's technical evidence. While the plans are still in their draft stage and no building work has been approved, they have garnered significant public outcry.
