'Painful decision' as Wellens departs Saints

RUGBY St Helens have parted company with head coach Paul Wellens after three years in charge of the Betfred Super League club.

Saints announced ina statement that they will not be renewing Wellens' contract for the 2026 campaign after a relatively disappointing fifth-placed finish in the regular season.
Saints’ subsequent, dramatic win over Leeds to reach the playoff semifinal was not enough to save Wellens, who played almost 500 games for his hometown club before replacing Kristian Woolf as head coach in 2023.
