'Notorious' fly-tippers get suspended sentences
The Journal
|May 29, 2025
TWO “notorious” Newcastle flytippers who blighted residential streets by dumping waste have dodged jail. Both were given suspended sentences, despite one of them committing further fly-tipping offences since his last court appearance in April.
Colin Brown, 68, and Mark Creed, 57, both of Welbeck Road, Newcastle, were caught illegally dumping waste in residential areas in Byker on various dates.
The duo were seen wheeling heavy trolleys which were full to the brim of household waste, such as carpets, bed frames and cupboards.
On Tuesday, the pair appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court to be sentenced for three counts each of disposing of waste without a permit, one charge of carrying out business as a scrap metal dealer without a licence, and a waste offence relating to the Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989. Creed was also sentenced for two further waste offences, committed in April. Both men pleaded guilty to the offences.
At an appearance on April 4, the court heard that Brown and Creed are well-known fly-tippers and that their pictures had been circulated amongst Newcastle City Council staff. On September 29 last year, a neighbourhood warden was on patrol in the Welbeck Road area of Newcastle which is a hotspot for fly-tipping when he spotted the pair.
