A NORTHUMBERLAND school has marked a proud milestone in its commitment to supporting children's emotional, social and physical wellbeing with the official opening of a long-awaited sensory hub.

Students and staff gathered at Acomb First School in Hexham for the unveiling of the Harrison Wellbeing Hub.

In June, pupils got to work laying the giant recycled plastic Lego-style bricks saving more than 40,000 plastic bottles from landfill at the base of the hub.

Since then the project has grown into an eco-friendly wellbeing space featuring a living green roof.

With the building now complete, the hub was officially opened on Wednesday, November 5. Members of the local community alongside special guests Sir David and Lady Sylvia Harrison, Daniel Harrison and former Newcastle United player Shola Ameobi helped mark the occasion.

Head teacher Hannah Williamson shared how the dream of creating a dedicated wellbeing space began as "a vision to provide every child with a place where they can feel calm, connected and cared for". Mrs Williamson said: "The Harrison Wellbeing Hub isn't just a building.

"It represents the compassion, creativity and community spirit that define our school.
