MP slams new parking charges at train station

TRAIN operator Northern have come under fire for introducing car parking charges at a Tyne Valley railway station.

The company has brought in paid parking at Stocksfield station, which sits on the route between Newcastle and Carlisle.

The move has prompted outcry from residents and drawn the attention of Hexham MP Joe Morris.

The Labour MP has called on Northern to reverse the charges, and fears it could reduce the use of public transport. There is also concern among villagers that the charges will push drivers to park on residential streets in Stocksfield.
