RETURNING to the Champions League would represent a “real stepping stone” for Newcastle United because of the competition's new format.

That is the view of former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan after Newcastle moved up to fifth place in the Premier League with just eight matches to go. The Magpies, who have a game in hand, have leapfrogged champions Manchester City in the process and moved level on points with Chelsea.
