STARTING TONIGHT WITH FIGHT AGAINST PARRA

- By MATTY HEWITT Sports writer

Mac is back and outlines his ambitions for a world title

“PAT McCormack win and look good doing it” - those were the confident eight words of Sunderlandborn fighter Pat McCormack as he prepares to headline at the Sunderland Live Arena this weekend.

The 30-year-old, a two-time Olympian and 7-0 (5 KOs), who is part of Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing stable, will return to the North East to take on Mexican fighter Miguel Parra tonight.

It's been a frustrating period for the former Team GB Boxing star with injuries slowing his progress but, after an impressive win over Robbie Davies jr back in March, McCormack is read to put on a show in the WBA eliminator at welterweight level

Speaking to The Journal, he said: “It’s been good, it's been a long camp and I’m ready to go. I'm feeling in good shape, very good shape.

“!'m buzzing to be back, I had a good win in my last fight, I beat Robbie Davies and I got a good stoppage there. That’s pushed me right up there and now we're in a good fight with a world ranked opponent. I'm looking forward to it.

“It’s going to be unbelievable, I haven't boxed here for a few years now. It’s good to be home”

Despite his battle with injuries in the latter stages of 2023 and early 2024, McCormack is raring to go.
