Landmark city centre office block up for sale

A NEWCASTLE city centre office block recently given permission to expand and become short-term lets has been put up for sale.

Property consultancy Knight Frank has been appointed to sell No. 2 Cathedral Square in the Bigg Market. The office block, which was bought by Newcastle firm Monument Real Estate in 2021, was recently given planning permission to be turned into short-stay apartments with a three-storey roof extension.

That development would create a 135-bedroom serviced apartment complex while another section of the existing property, which protrudes on to the Cloth Market, would be demolished.

The property dates back to the 1970s when it replaced the city's old town hall. It is being advertised as a “redevelopment & investment opportunity” with price on application.
