Howe sets out demand in players search

EDDIE Howe has admitted it has been frustrating to lose out on targets but the Newcastle United boss stressed signings must be “desperate” to play for the club.

Anthony Elanga certainly fitted that description - the Sweden international “just knew” that Newcastle were the right choice as soon as he learned of the club's interest - but the new arrival remains the Magpies’ only senior addition this summer.

Newcastle have ultimately missed out on a number of in-demand players during a challenging window, including Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Dean Huijsen.
