Hotel's revenues rise amid investment plans

course at Matfen Hall

THE owners of luxury Northumberland hotel Matfen Hall have highlighted investments into its leisure facilities after posting rising revenues and narrowing losses.

Earlier this year, directors revealed work was starting on a new multimillion-pound spa as part of plans to put the venue on the UK map as a leading leisure destination.

The historic property was acquired by Walwick Estate Group in 2022 - owned by True Potential founder Sir David Harrison - after being part of the Blackett family since the 1830s.

The country hotel was closed to guests soon after, as it carried out a major refurbishment programme, reopening in 2024 to unveil upgraded bedrooms, renewed leisure facilities and the restoration of the Grade II-listed building’s Great Hall.

Since then, the firm has forged ahead with upgrades to its golf and spa offering, accounts reveal.
