Host of events to celebrate 175 years of railway

NORTHUMBERLAND heritage railway is set to celebrate its 175th anniversary with a packed programme of events.

The Aln Valley Railway will host freight trains on the old Alnwick Branch line for the first time since the 60s in August and fish and chips aboard its carriages in September.

Running on the Alnmouth to Alnwick branch line, the local anniversary falls alongside national celebrations for 200 years since the founding of the modern railway. The Northumberland celebrations kicked off with a 1940s weekend in late July, and are followed by vintage carriages and diesel traction, steam traction, and Pacer trains over the first weekend of August.
