Homes plan for site of former school and church

NORTH Tyneside Council has drawn up plans for new social homes in Longbenton, on the site of a former Catholic church and school.

Council planners have lodged an application to erect 36 new social homes on vacant land west of Benton lane, including the site of the former St Peter and St Paul Church and St Stephen's Primary School.
The church was earmarked for demolition in September last year after a council report found it a “huge danger” due to its vulnerability to arson.
