FESTIVAL'S SEARCH FOR BEST BREW

ANNUAL favourite Gateshead Beer and Music Festival, which has been running since 2010, is back - and its Bank Holiday weekend return features a competition to find the very best brew.

The three-day event began yesterday at Gateshead Rugby Club in Low Fell and included the first staging of a regional leg of the Society of Independent Brewers' best beer competition.
A wide range of rival breweries went head-to-head in the competition, serving up their top beers in a bid to be named winner. Besides regional breweries, others taking part spanned hopefuls from Berwick to Sheffield, with the beer chosen by the judges going on to compete in the national finals.
Festival-goers no doubt will be keen to sample the vast selection of beers on offer during the community festival's run.
