A Tyneside school has “ambitious plans for growth’ after being saved from closure for now.

Monkseaton Middle School was one of several proposed for closure or merger in a controversial six-week consultation by the local authority.
Now plans have emerged about how Monkseaton Middle can remain open. Parents and volunteers have campaigned and raised funds to prevent potential closure since North Tyneside Council's consultation went live earlier in October.
Head teacher Kirsty Nichols-Mackay said: “The governors... have come up with a viable alternative, which is our school remains open and we have an ambitious plan for growth.
