NORTH East Labour MP Bridget Phillipson has failed in her bid for the deputy leadership of the Labour Party.

Education Secretary Ms Phillipson, MP for Houghton and Sunderland South, was beaten by 54% to 46% by Lucy Powell, who was sacked from the Prime Minister's Cabinet last month
Ms Powell called on Sir Keir Starmer to be bolder and show "whose side we are on."
