Competition driving up standards - Ballard

AS Sunderland's preseason ramps up, Dan Ballard says competition for places is driving standards across the squad.

The centre-back believes the team is heading in the right direction ahead of the Premier League season.

“We know the task ahead and how tough it’s going to be, but we're doing everything we can to be in a good spot,” Ballard said.

“There's competition for places, which is great, and it's down to us to push the level.”
