NORTHERN PREMIER LGE

NICKY Gray praised the character of his Ashington players after they earned a late point in their visit to Blyth Spartans.

Both sides have struggled to get up and running in the East Division - but it was Spartans who looked on their way to their second win of the campaign when Paddy McClafferty put them in front on 58 minutes.

That lead remained in place until deep into second half stoppage time but the Colliers earned a point when substitute Sam Davison fired home as he took full advantage of some hesitant defending from the hosts.
