NEWCASTLE United's new CEO David Hopkinson has held introductory meetings with key stadium personnel ahead of his first full week in charge at St James' Park.

The Canadian arrived at the club last week with the former Global Head of Partnerships at Real Madrid set to take over from Darren Eales, who announced his exit from Gallowgate following a three-year stint. During an interview with the club website, Hopkinson has referenced the importance of a city centre location as fans wait for news on wheher the Magpies will stay or go at St James' Park.

The ex-Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Knicks and La Liga supremo told the official website: “Each team I worked for was the most important thing in that community.

“And the arena or stadium is situated in the centre of the city. I haven't worked for one where it was in a suburb, 15 miles from downtown.
