Church cordoned off as two men take ill

A NEWCASTLE city centre church was cordoned off for more than 12 hours after two men became ill in its grounds.

Emergency services were called to St John the Baptist Church on Newcastle's Grainger Street at around 5pm on Monday.
Police say two men were taken to hospital. One remains in hospital where his condition has been described as “stable” while the other has been discharged.
